(London.CityRegiions.com, February 23, 2013 ) Leeds, U.K -- In Fort Wayne, controversy continues to surround the African-African American Historical Museum as the founder Hanna Stith states she was locked out.
African-African American Historical Museum founder stated that she was locked out on Monday, and noted that she found a letter taped to the museum door, which claimed the locks were changed and directing her to contact attorney Peter G. Mallers. Stith stated that Mallers represents who she considers to be former board members.
“I was shocked. I was shocked beyond belief the locks had been changed,” said Stith.
Pompia Durril stated he retains his position as Board President, and would not comment on the boards involvement in the museum door situation.
She states that Monday's occurrence likely is stemming from a meeting on February 11, wherein members of the Society voted the board out. Durril stated that the board is intact as there were not enough members present for the vote to take hold. Stith, and the board members both say the other misinterpreted the bylaws.
“The whole situation is unnecessary, it is embarrassing. I am embarrassed to keep coming before the public with these things when we've done everything that we are supposed to do and everything we are advised to do. We actually won the election. There's no doubt about it,” said Stith.
Stith claims she is upset and disappointed in the recent actions, and finds the fighting wholly unnecessary. She also stated she has grown weary of the bad publicity, as it is not good for the future of the museum.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen to the museum at this point,” she said. “It’s the membership that runs the museum and it is the membership that the museum depends on to function and to stay alive. If they lose the support of the community and the membership then we are in trouble.”
