(London.CityRegiions.com, March 13, 2013 ) England, Uk -- The National Security Minister, Jack Warner, spoke on the issue of crime within Tobago recently, highlighting four incidents against tourists on the island.
Following an hour-long meeting with Minister of Tobago Development Dr. Delmon Baker, Warner stated: "My concern is what we are doing to of course stem the tide to make people here safer, to make sure tourists, when they come, can speak highly of the security in Tobago."
Warner noted that there will be increased police patrols across the entire region in order to help assist curtail the recent rise in activity. There will be special emphasis on road fatalities on the island where there have been seven road deaths recently.
He stated that the security bar would be lifted, combating crime surges that will culminate in a collaboration effort.
"We shall also work in conjunction with the Tobago Development Ministry, as well as the THA (Tobago House of Assembly) in those areas, which would benefit the people of Tobago."
With a 50% mark in gross domestic profit coming through tourism, Warner is aware that Tobago remains attractive to locals as well as visitors, and notes that it is important for the maneuver for higher security.
"We have to make sure we give them the kind of security and that goes for tourist as well as the people of Tobago," he concluded.
Baker also stated construction of the new Roxborough Fire service Headquarters and Old Grange Police Station are to start within the next two quarters.
"And I'm pleased to advise the population in Tobago that if we are to stick to the timeliness that have been set by the Ministry of National Security, that some construction activity should begin on ground within six months for those two stations," said Baker.
