(London.CityRegions.com, March 17, 2013 ) England, U.K -- A new poll was released by Omnibus Company titled “Spring Break Travel edition of its Shoppers Trend Report”, which shows that 60% of Americans miss out on significant flight, hotel, and car books by handling them a la carte.
According to the site RetailMeNot's Trae Bodge, who works as senior editor: “It is interesting to see that affordability is the most important consideration for consumers when selecting a vacation destination, yet when it comes to booking travel arrangements, consumers are leaving hundreds of dollars on the table by not taking advantage of the discounts on vacation packages that pair flights, lodging and car rental. Online travel sites like Priceline, Expedia and Travelocity, indicate that consumers can save an average of anywhere from $200 to $5001 by booking a customized vacation package versus individual elements like flight and hotel separately.”
The findings were rather daunting at times, as the poll showed the following facts regarding Americans and their missed deals: In selecting a Spring vacation destination, affordability is important for more than 8 in 10 consumers, followed by security or safety (55%). Availability of activities, and whether the destination is in the U.S. (35%) and family friendliness (32%) are other considerations.
Women were more likely than men to consider security or safety as an important factor, along with those who are 65 or older. Nearly 60% of consumers booked spring vacations a la carte from differing sources instead of buying a packaged deal with discounts.
Another noticeable fact was that 20% of consumers plan ahead, while 45% hold off until they begin to set their deals. On average, consumers will begin to book travel arrangements 45 days prior to a departure.
With all this data, the concept and economy booking package deals are known to not always be the perfect for travelers. Gudrun Enger noted in an article a personal experience involving Expedia. The author saved $1472.78 by booking individual items rather than using Expedia's supposed sales packages.
The key to all the information is that those who research, tend to save money, while those who simply take what is available when they are searching, tend to be given raw deals.
