(London.CityRegions.com, May 05, 2013 ) England, UK -- While many opine on the greatness that technology plays in everyday life and the ability to gain information of all types; when it comes to learning, many students prefer to take a class in the way it has been done for centuries.
According to a study handled by the Teachers College at Columbia University, a majority of students within the community college prefer to partake in classes in-person, as opposed to online.
The study interviewed dozens of those attending the school, and looked to a variety of classes that were either online or face-to-face, in order to find out if students preferred one or the other.
While the students noted enjoyment of the ability to create their own schedules for online courses, the student also noted that educators may be generally overestimating the demand of online courses by students.
Students were overwhelmingly interest in taking standard classes over online type. One of the major notes was that math and sciences courses especially needed a face-to-face touch in order to feel proper.
Students also expressed that they preferred to take classes face-to-face if they were what might be described as important to the persons major. In other words, the more that was riding on a class, the more likely one was to want the class to be held in-person, and not online.
Overall, the study seems to express that colleges in general would be wise to continue to stick with the standard method of educating as of now. The study by no means indicates that online classes are a waste of time, or do not work. Instead, it simply shows that rushing to turn universities into wholly online experiences seems to be jumping the gun, as of yet, and may take a bit more time to consider.
