(London.CityRegions.com, May 26, 2013 ) London, UK -- Welsh Secretary David Jones calls the growing employment figures a “clear sign of growth” as business was increasingly positive.
As of March, the country’s unemployment national average was 8.2 percent, much lower than it was in the same quarter of 2012. 16 thousand more people have jobs than last March, but Jones warns that the hard work isn’t over yet. While the Welsh 8.2 percent national average of unemployment is much better than it has been, it is still higher than the entire United Kingdom’s unemployment rate at 7.8 percent. 50,000 more people are out of work than they were before the country hit succession.
The National Contributions Bill is still in the works to create a more favorable economy for businesses and consumers. The bill will exempt employers from the first two thousand EUs of their national insurance payments in an effort to help small businesses while still decreasing the jobless rate.
The 1 billion EU write-down in the value of Tata Steel’s European operations and 430 job losses has impacted larger businesses. Janet Jones, chairperson for the Welsh policy unit of the Federation of Small Businesses says that if unemployment can still continue to fall overall, then the amount of jobs lost can be replaced by those that are gained.
