(London.CityRegions.com, June 06, 2013 ) London, UK -- Mobile marketing generated $139 billion in net sales within the United States in 2012, skyrocketing from $48 billion in 2010, according to a new study by the Mobile Marketing Association. Within this critical growth area, many companies are seeing search engine optimization, also known as SEO, as essential for business growth.
Authors of Mobile Marketing Economic Impact Study say “SEO is now a $3-billion industry in the United States”. Nearly a third of marketers say their brand’s main website has been optimized for viewing on mobile devices, meaning users who find the website through Google or other search engines can access their brand; 17% run a separate version of their site on mobile phones.
In a consumer market that is increasingly online-based and involves the use of mobile devices, researchers said, companies are seeing the advantages of marketing efforts that address consumers who use their smartphones to research products and businesses. “Even in its infancy, mobile has irrevocably transformed society,” said Mr. Johnson. “With the introduction of new technology to increased accessibility and connectivity, mobile has the ability to reinvent itself and remain indispensable to the consumer and marketer relationship.”
Businesses are also seeing mobile marketing as a critical area to add new personnel. In a difficult job market, mobile marketing created 524,000 jobs in 2012. Over the next five years, mobile marketing is expected to create 1.4 million jobs according to the study by Mobile Marketing Association. Mobile marketing is essential for modern businesses to gain brand recognition from consumers, and search engine optimization is a critical part of that.
“So many people use their smart phones everywhere to look up products or services they’re interested in. When they start a Google search for your particular product or service, you absolutely need to be within the top few search results,” said Mr. Willis from Marketing Grin. “People – especially on a mobile device – aren’t going to scroll through pages and pages of results to find you. So, search engine optimization is critical in making sure you’re on consumers’ radar. The more likely consumers are to find you through search engines, the more successful your site is going to be.”
Companies spent about $6.6 billion in the U.S. on mobile marketing in 2012. Mr. Willis said that “this is only going to rise as people take advantage of mobile. Mobile marketing and SEO are increasingly essential expenditures for businesses.”
“SEO and mobile marketing can really transform a company’s relationship with potential consumers. It can put them on the map for a lot of individuals who may not otherwise come across the company,” Mr. Willis went on to say that “every company should invest in SEO and mobile marketing to ensure business growth.”
