(London.CityRegions.com, August 11, 2013 ) London, UK -- Sarah Sharples and her husband were told she was expecting a girl by a doctor during an ultrasound, but the Northumberland couple discovered their baby was a boy at delivery.
When Lee and Sarah Sharples were pregnant with their first child, doctors told them during a routine ultrasound they were expecting a girl. Ecstatic about the news, the couple spent £3,000 on pink and girly baby essentials for the nursery. They picked out a name, Lily-Mae, and painted the nursery pink with her name in big letters.
However, when the time came to deliver, the got something totally unexpected. When their baby was born, their obstetrician informed them that Sara had given birth to a baby boy. The midwife told Lee there was something he needed to see, and immediately they both thought something was wrong and started panicking. It turns out, their little Lily-Mae was renamed to Joseph.
Sarah and Lee have tried to return many of their girly items, but some cannot be replaced. Joseph’s room is now blue with a Monster’s Inc. mural, and other items have been donated or sold to pay for more gender-neutral and boy themed essentials.
