(London.CityRegiions.com, November 13, 2012 ) Birmingham, U.K -- A Massachusetts woman’s diamond wedding ring has been found after it was lost 17 years ago at her sister’s house. Valerie Lynch wept for joy when the 1.2-carat marquise diamond ring was returned to her. She was again at her sister’s house in Plymouth, along with friends and other relatives. “I can’t even believe it.” Lynch told the Patriot Ledger. “In my mind, it was gone forever.” That day in 1995, Lynch had removed the diamond ring and a wedding band. She had put sunscreen on her children and they walked to the beach. Then she discovered both rings missing. She returned to the house but could not find them. The band was found several years later, but the diamond ring was not. Lynch said she had given up. “We came back with the metal detectors and searched the yard so many times,” she said. Things changed after a Kent Blethen talked to Lynch’s sister, Vicki Belanger. Blethen is a metal detection hobbyist, and he offered to bring his gear and hunt for the ring. It took him 40 minutes to locate it an inch beneath the soil. “I couldn’t believe he had actually found it,” Belanger told the Patriot Ledger. She invited Lynch and family members to announce the discovery. “I knew everyone would love to be here when we surprised my sister.” Blethen has pursued his detection hobby for 15 years and is a member of the Silver City Treasure Seekers. He says his only reward is people’s reactions. “The look on their faces is priceless,” said Blethen. He said he has turned up all kinds of rings and coins with his metal detector. He often scours the beaches and water at Cape Cod and South Shore. Helping people is a way of paying it forward, he said. “You hope good karma comes your way eventually,” Blethen said.
