(London.CityRegiions.com, November 14, 2012 ) London, U.K -- According to recent studies, it may be better for one to run on an empty stomach rather than doing so following a meal. Men who utilize a workout before breakfast have been shown to lose more fat than those who do so after their first meal of the day, according to scientists. There is another possible benefit for exercising before one eats. However, further studies need to be done in order to assess long-term effects of such activity. Dr. Jason Gill of Nor Farah of the Institute of Cardiovascular and Medical Sciences at the University of Glasgow conducted the study. The work consisted of ten overweight men who were not considered regular exercisers. Each took part in the study that looked at the effects of exercising in temporal proximity to the intake of calories through food consumption. Each person underwent three trials which lasted up to two weeks. In one trial, the men did no exercise and then at breakfast. In another trial, men had men to briskly for 60 minutes before eating breakfast. The third involved eating after the same amount of walking. The participants were given lunch three-and-a-half hours following breakfast, and the amount of fat their bodies burnt, respectively, and the levels of fat, sugar, and insulin in the blood were measured over an eight hour period for each occasion. Each trial that involved exercise saw increased fat-burning over the course of the day. However, those who exercised before the breakfast resulted in greater fat loss and larger fat-in-blood reductions. Dr. Gill stated: "Any exercise you do is beneficial but the indications are that there might be an extra benefit associated with exercising before eating, compared to after. "However, further study is needed to determine whether the present findings extend over the long term.
"In the end we would like to encourage everyone to do some form of exercise every day. The difference between exercising before compared to after breakfast was much smaller than the difference between exercising at either time compared to not exercising at all." About FitFanatics.co.uk:
