(London.CityRegiions.com, November 16, 2012 ) West Midlands, UK -- Swedish and UK tabloids have exposed the engagement of Swedish Princess Madeleine to American banker Christopher O’Neill. The announcement had apparently been kept out of the public eye for nearly a month so the couple could enjoy some time alone. They told reporters had been engaged weeks before the public announcement.
The announcement, while big, seemed a long time coming according to royalty enthusiast Ebba von Sydow of the Expression, who said, “At the same time it is pleasant surprise, and I, like everyone else, am now looking forward to an engagement interview. Many are also asking whether the wedding with be broadcast publicly, and much points to that being the case."
Mother of the Princess, Queen Silvia verified the engagement reports saying that her daughter was joyful and that she was ecstatic about her future son-in-law.
The Royal court was next in line to expose the engagement in writing, "The Marshal of the Realm is delighted to announce the engagement between Princess Madeleine and Mr. Christopher O'Neill.
"After His Majesty The King of Sweden had given his consent to the marriage between Princess Madeleine and Mr. O'Neill, His Majesty requested the approval by the Swedish Government, in accordance with the procedures set out in the Swedish Constitution."
Sten Hedman, who has been a royalty expert for years, said that it would have been an even bigger shock if the two had not gotten engaged. Hedman said that it was obvious once the two moved in together that something big was coming.
The husband-to-be, an Ivy League graduate and successful finance advisor, apparently linked up with Princess Madeleine in the Empire State shortly after her separation from former fiance and alleged adulterer Jonas Bergstrom.
Madeleine said that the breakup took a toll on her saying, "That the whole thing became so public meant that it was a very difficult time in my life.”
It was reported that the Princess and O’Neill, who is a financial advisor partnering currently with World Childhood Foundation, have been seeing each other for the better part of two years. O’Neill first showed up with the Swedish Royalty at the 2012 baptism of Princess Estelle.
O’Neill made his first official appearance with the royal family in Stockholm at the May 2012 baptism of Princess Estelle.
O'Neill reportedly asked the Princess for her hand in marriage in October, with the consent of the King of Sweden.
While the marriage date has yet to be set in stone, the couple is anticipating a summer ceremony next year, and say they plan on residing in New York at least until then.
The details of the ring was not unveiled, but with O’Neill’s profession and Madeleine’s status, the diamonds are surely ones fit for a Princess.
