(London.CityRegiions.com, November 28, 2012 ) camden town, uk -- Late singer Amy Winehouse’s townhome in Camden Town is headed for the auction block after attempts to sell the home failed.
Winehouse, who passed away in the home on July 23, of last year at age 27, due to what a coroner’s inquest termed as “misadventure” (she had a blood alcohol level of 416 mg per decilitre at the time of her death), was an award-winning singer, having claimed several Grammy Awards for her two studio albums, “Frank” and “Back in Black.” A third album, “Lioness: Hidden Treasures,” was released after her death.
The house in Camden Square was put on the market for £2.7 million, but the price had recently dropped to £1.8 million. The auction will be conducted by Camden property specialists McHugh & Co, who said that bids on the property will take place on December 3 at Bafta’s headquarters in Piccadilly.
The townhome, according to the auction catalogue, is a “substantial semi-detached house” that has been “modernised to an exceptionally high standard.”
Other notable features of the home include a gymnasium, a video entry-phone in the front door, and a music-room with soundproofed walls.
In a statement released by Winehouse’s family last year, they said, : “The Winehouses have decided to put the house on the market, with great regret. Amy loved that house, but none of the family felt it appropriate that they should live in it.”
Winehouse was a revered figure in Camden Town. So much so that there are plans in the works to erect a statue of her at the Roundhouse in Chalk Farm Road.
The Amy Winehouse Foundation was started by her father, Mitch Winehouse, in her honor as a way to both educate and aid people suffering from addiction.
