(London.CityRegiions.com, February 11, 2013 ) Basingstoke, U.K -- Amanda Warrington is a 50-year-old puzzle addict. For the last 17 months she has been working on what was formerly the world’s largest puzzle. The 24,000 piece puzzle called Life: The Great Challenge has taken her 17 months to complete and sometimes she would spend several hours a day piecing it together.
When the puzzle was finally completed it spanned 14 feet by 5 feet. The giant puzzle is now a colorful piece of art that spans across the entire wall of her lounge at her home in Madison Close, Yate.
When the puzzle was released in March of 2007 it was recognized by the Guinness Book of Records as the world’s largest puzzle.
When Life: The Great Challenge was disassembled in the box it weighed an impressive 26 pounds. However, it lost its title as the world’s largest puzzle in February of 2011 when the puzzle Double Retrospect was released. That particular puzzle has 32,256 pieces, and was weighed in at an outstanding 42 pounds. Amanda, who says she loves a good challenge, said she would like to take on this behemoth but she does not have a wall that would fit such a giant piece.
Ms. Warrington told The Post, "I just love a challenge. I must have done at least 50 puzzles before but I like doing the difficult ones like the mosaics, globes or the baked beans puzzle. I work full time so I was doing between 30 minutes and an hour each day but I have to admit sometimes I was staying up until 3am because I was getting addicted. My friends are amazed and think I'm a little mad as well. They don't understand how I have so much patience. It gets to a point where you become excited to get it finished but it's an odd feeling now that it's not there to be done. I think the next one I might try is the spaghetti puzzle - that should be difficult."
Life: The Great Challenge was purchased for her by her sister after seeing a story on the news about it. Ms. Warrington said, "I saw it on the news and my sister bought it for me over the internet two years ago because the family all know what a puzzle addict I am. Now that it is finished it totally dominates my front room. When the sun comes through the windows in the morning it has a very calming effect. The only other problem is that it is glued to the wall, so if I ever do move house I'll have to take the wall with me."
