(London.CityRegions.com, April 26, 2013 ) England, UK -- A new research study has shown that the scent given off by particular extra virgin olive oil, especially those of the Italian variety, that are particularly aromatic, trigger continuous satiety responses within subjects studied.
In the study it was shown that canola oil did not present the same typical benefits, despite presenting a like-dietary profile. Butter, which is considered to offer richly flavored aroma, also failed to trigger a similar response.
It has been known for some time that the rich flavored foods one consumes can help create a satisfied and full reaction; however, apparently not all rich aromas have the same effect as any other.
Argan oil was also tested, as it smell somewhat like a fruity olive. The plant is native to Morocco, and its oil has become increasingly sought after in recent years due to its cosmetic capabilities, as well as its cooking and general ingredient quality.
"The research found that compared to other oils and fats, extra virgin olive oil was more likely to increase a person’s feelings of satiety after a meal. But another phase of the study showed that just imparting the scent of olive oil to food – by adding an aromatic extract – reduced the amount of calories people in the study consumed and improved their blood sugar response."
