(London.CityRegions.com, March 05, 2015 ) Dunblane, Perthshire -- Hehir, of In & Out Health, who retails a 1.0mm Micro-needling Derma Roller on Amazon, offers the following information about Micro-needling. Hehir says it is important that people have an understanding of micro-needling so that they can make an informed decision on whether this is for them or not. In & Out Health provide further guidance in their ebook for customers who purchase their Derma Roller.
What is Micro-Needling? Micro-needling Is undertaken by rolling a derma roller with variable amounts of micro-needles over the skin to break down old tissue for scars, wrinkles, stretch marks, to renew skin cells. This results in the formation of new tissue layers of elastin and collagen and improved blood supply.
It can be undertaken in professional clinics who tend to use longer length needles for deeper penetration under the clinical setting. Or it is now commonly being used in the home, however Hehir of In & Out Health advises the needle length for home use should not be more than 1.0mm as longer needles can cause bleeding.
How does Medical Micro-Needling work? The Derma Roller glides smoothly over the skin - penetration depth is dependent on the length of needle used. The needles form tiny channels in the skin and prompt's the body's healing process to respond with the creation of new collagen and elastin tissue, which plumps and thickens the skin, reducing the appearance of scars, fine lines and wrinkles, stretch marks and cellulite.
What does the procedure involve? The Derma Roller requires to be disinfected in Surgical spirit prior to use for about 20 minutes. Before commencing the skin requires to be cleaned and a numbing cream may be applied to lessen discomfort for those with sensitive skin. The derma roller head is then rolled back and forth, side to side and diagonally across the skin on one area at a time. The rolling process and removal of dead skin cells can make the skin dry initially, so it is important to apply nourishing skin creams or moisturisers immediately following the treatment. Using creams is doubly advantageous as the tiny channels formed during the rolling process allows for up to 1000 x deeper penetration of the creams. However, Hehir strongly advises that natural organic vitamin based creams be used to sooth, hydrate and protect the skin.
What are the effects of rolling on the skin? Most people will experience some redness. The duration of the redness depends on whether the treatment has been undertaken in clinics with longer needle lengths or at home with shorter needle lengths. When undertaken in clinics by professionals the redness is similar to mild sunburn and lasts for 24-48 hours and there may be minimal pin-point bleeding and/or bruising. When using the derma roller at home with the shorter length needles (up to 1.0mm) the redness will be mild and commonly it clears over night. Although this varies depending on the reason for treatment, many people can find that within a few weeks they notice their skin is smoother and more radiant looking but the full effects won't be seen until a few months later. The using of a roller has a cumulative effect that is longer lasting rather than a quick fix.
What else should I be aware of following Micro-Needling treatment? - If using at home avoid using on the thin skinned eyelids and lips when derma rolling at home. - The micro-needling process can stimulate the release of toxins deep within the skin. In rare cases this can result in a few pimples appearing. Allow all pimples to clear before reusing the derma roller. - The inflammatory reaction of the skin is extremely short and fades significantly within hours from redness to pinkish that may last for 12 to 48 hours depending on whether clinic or home treatment used. - In order to reduce visible redness, it is recommend to use a good moisturiser and sunblock. The use of mineral makeup is recommended after procedure. - People with sensitive skin or low pain threshold can find the process uncomfortable. However a numbing cream can be applied to minimise discomfort. - The micro channels close approximately within one hour. - Following best practice hygiene regime will ensure there is no infections.
