The following information might be useful for athletes or regular people who just have knee problems and want to strengthen their legs and knees.
Exercise 1: Chair Leg Raises
The first exercise is an easy sitting down exercise. The person simply has to sit in a chair with their back straight, hands by their side and feet placed flat on the floor. Then the person should raise one foot so it's straight out in front of them. Repeat this exercise up to 15 times to strengthen the knee. Perform this exercise with both legs, one after the other.
Exercise 2: Balancing Acts
The next exercise can be done in many different ways. It consists of balancing on one leg for up to 30 seconds. If a person finds it hard to balance they can stand near a wall and hold on, always trying to hold on less and balance more. For an easy balancing, just lift one foot slightly off the ground. More advanced balances include lifting up one leg and bending over, or raising the leg as high as possible while still balancing. a person can also try throwing and catching a ball while balancing, or placing a ball on the floor and picking it up while balancing on one leg.
Exercise 3: Lunges
The third very good exercise for strengthening the knees and legs is lunges. To perform a lunge the person must stand with feet shoulder width apart, and then take one big step forward so one foot is in front of the other. Then lower the entire torso down to the floor so the back knee almost touches the floor.
Lunges have many different variations, from jumping lunges to side step lunges. It's best for a person to start with the basics and as their knees and legs improve in health they can start to be more advanced.
With all exercises and workouts, Active Athletes recommends that a person should take it slow and do one small action every day. When they do this they build a habit which becomes much more powerful than starting and stopping exercise all the time.
