(London.CityRegions.com, August 25, 2013 ) London, UK -- Robert Zarywacz recently discussed the state of construction and the industry as a whole for the North Devon area with Pearce Construction, the managing director of Pearce Construction. The discussion follows David Parsons' year in office as national chairman of the National Federation of Builders.
With a year passed since Parsons took the reins of the industry staple, as chairman, but time passes quickly. At the time, David spoke on issues regarding ensuring survival of growth and member retention, along with readiness for the industry for more favorable trade conditions. Parsons had also spoke on the lobby for procurement policies for the smaller companies and entity within the industry. A year later, Parsons is pleased, but not overly optimistic regarding the construction industry. As he described it, he holds “controlled optimism.”
"It has taken four or five years as people have repositioned themselves," said David. "We are selling houses again and there are more opportunities becoming available. Housing pulled us in after Northern Rock and now housing is pulling us out again."
Parsons continues by stating that the sentiment he felt during his first year as NFB chairman something he took seriously. "My role included strategy, troubleshooting and networking. I met with people from all around the regions. It has been good for me and good for the business."
The obvious challenge for anyone in his position is that creating growth or cultivating stability and job retention within recessions can be tough, especially in an industry that is reliant on other industries making maneuvers. Parsons' worked hard to keep the lobby of Government policies and initiatives lucrative and flowing.
Parsons was no stranger to the larger areas of industry, including the Government's chief construction adviser, Peter Hansford. "It was an interesting 12 months but it went by too quickly. We have to think months and years ahead."
