(London.CityRegions.com, October 22, 2013 ) Reading, Berkshire, UK. -- After attacking neighbour's two dogs as they were leaving their house, Molly, a 6 year old Labrador aggressive rescue dog was immediately taken to the vet by her owner to be euthanized. Having previously bitten a dog 2 years ago, Molly was now on death row. The vet agreed with the owner that this was the most sensible course of action to take. As Molly was literally on the vet's table and being prepared to be put down, her owner had second thoughts. After all, it was her husband's birthday and after speaking with him on the phone, who had remained at home they decided to delay any final decision until the following day. At this point her husband wanted to get a second opinion and immediately phoned Jeremy Tanner, a Dog Whisperer who had developed a technique which he calls the "Legame" method which involves using body language to communicate with a dog on how to behave correctly. Move forward two days and here is what Molly's owner had to say: "I would never have believed that by only our second session Molly would be so close to other dogs without showing signs of fear and aggression. Really amazing I can't thank you enough. Your calm methods really seem to work". So what is the Legame dog training method and how does it work? The Legame method is to get the dog owner to concentrate only on what will calm a dog down and not to try and stop the aggressive behaviour. Jeremy acknowledges that this might not make sense in the beginning and for many dog owners this feels extremely counter intuitive as all they want to do is stop the aggressive behaviour. Jeremy says, "Obviously, I agree with this sentiment, but what I see all of the time, is owners yanking their dog back on the lead when the dog growls or they will shout 'COME HERE!' whilst at the same time holding the lead tightly and yanking their dog away. All this serves to do is to make the dog even more reactive to other dogs." The Legame dog training method is all about getting both the dog and the owner working together in perfect harmony and not against each other as would be the case normally when you see a dog being yanked away on a lead and being shouted at. Legame (from the Italian to mean a link, a bond or a connection) is all about enhancing trust between an owner and their dog. Once trust has been established the dog will follow his owner's lead when he faces a situation he is uncomfortable in. The first principle a dog owner learns in Legame is how to calm things down quickly by using body language and not using any voice commands whatsoever. Jeremy says "A calm dog never misbehaves, and that must be the first objective of any dog owner, to achieve a calm behaviour. As soon as a dog starts to act in any way considered to be anti-social, whether that be exhibited in aggressive behaviours, excessive barking or jumping up etc, you can use your body language to calm the situation down. Done effectively you can achieve almost immediate results". A last word from Molly's owner "I just wanted to say a massive thank you from myself and Molly for showing me that there definitely is a way forward."
